Working with Nuclear Consulting

Nuclear Consulting Limited uses a flexible delivery model so the right capability can be deployed in the right way for each assignment. This supports outcome-led delivery through Expertise as a Service and longer-term capability-building through the Nuclear Capability Multiplier.

Clients do not need to decide how to resource the work. We select the most appropriate delivery model and team structure based on scope, risk profile, assurance requirements, timescales and contractual constraints.

The same model supports people who work with us. Whether someone joins as a consultant, associate, contractor, through a continuity employment model, or via a partner organisation, the expectation is consistent: high professional standards, sound judgement and delivery that stands up to scrutiny in a regulated environment.

Each assignment is led by a senior consultant who provides continuity, clear accountability and oversight of quality from initiation through to completion. Our people are our greatest strength and you will work with a team of experts carefully selected to deliver your project. Every project is scoped and resourced with a view to making the most of our people to eliminate wasted time and unnecessary cost. We seek to build a long term trusted partner relationship with every client and take shared ownership of our projects to work as part of the client’s team.

Consultants

Our consultants provide delivery leadership, integration and accountability. They define scope, establish proportionate governance and ensure that technical and programme inputs form a coherent position rather than disconnected contributions.

In practical terms, consultants:

  • agree scope, deliverables and acceptance criteria, including interfaces and assumptions

  • set governance proportionate to risk, including review points and decision gates

  • integrate technical, regulatory, safety, programme and organisational inputs into decision-ready outputs

  • apply structured review and challenge to ensure quality and robustness

  • retain accountability for delivery and quality throughout, with a single senior point of contact

For clients, this reduces coordination burden and integration risk. For people working with us, it provides clear expectations and an environment where quality and assurance are taken seriously.

Associates

Associates are a core part of Nuclear Consulting Limited’s delivery capability. They are experienced practitioners who work with us repeatedly and are selected for depth of expertise, judgement and credibility in high-consequence nuclear environments.

Many bring decades of experience across civil nuclear, defence and adjacent regulated industries. They are used where clients need independent expert input, credible challenge, and advice that will stand up to internal governance and external scrutiny.

Because associates are not embedded as day-to-day delivery resource, they can provide constructive independence. Their role often includes peer review, technical and organisational challenge, validation of assumptions, identification of gaps, and strengthening of evidence and arguments before decisions are taken or submissions are made.

Associates operate within the same governance and quality expectations as the wider team. Their input is integrated into a coherent output under the accountability of the senior consultant.

Contractors

Contractors are engaged where additional delivery capacity is required for a defined period, where specific capability is needed quickly, or where resourcing needs to align with a client’s delivery structures.

They work within blended teams alongside consultants, associates and partner organisations. Work is managed through clear scope, interfaces and quality expectations, with oversight retained by the senior consultant to ensure pace, consistency and appropriate assurance.

For contractors, this provides well-defined assignments, professional standards, and clarity on how outputs will be integrated and reviewed.

Client continuity employment model
(BYOC)

This is a hybrid approach designed to preserve continuity where a client wishes to retain a trusted individual but can no longer engage them through a personal service company or an outside IR35 arrangement. Within Nuclear Consulting Limited, this is referred to as Bring Your Own Client (BYOC). Under this model, the individual becomes a PAYE consultant employed within Nuclear Consulting Limited, and the client engages the firm rather than the individual directly.

This enables continuity of delivery while providing a compliant contractual route. It is not an umbrella arrangement. It is genuine employment within a specialist consultancy, with governance, support and professional standards around delivery quality.

For individuals, this provides a stable and compliant route to continue delivering for a known client while becoming part of a professional consultancy environment.

Strategic partner organisations

Some assignments benefit from combining our capability with complementary services, specialist tools or additional organisational delivery capacity. In these cases, we work with strategic partner organisations to assemble a combined team that remains fully integrated and outcome-focused.

Partnerships are used to extend capability while maintaining a coherent delivery model. Scope definition, integration, oversight and quality assurance remain under the control of the senior consultant, with clear accountability retained throughout.

For partner organisations, the intent is aligned standards, clear interfaces and integrated delivery, not disconnected subcontracting.
