Associates are an integrated part of Nuclear Consulting Limited’s delivery capability. They are experienced independent practitioners who are selected for depth of expertise, judgement and credibility in high-consequence nuclear environments.
A typical associate brings decades of experience across civil nuclear, defence and adjacent regulated industries. The provide expert independent knowledge, challenge, and advice that will stand up to internal governance and external scrutiny.
While remaining independent our associates operate to the same stringent governance and quality expectations as our staff consultants. This hybrid approach allows us to tap into the estimated 35% of nuclear experts that operate in sole practice or small consultancies while adding NCL’s operational and project delivery capability to assure high value outcomes equally on low key assignments as we do on large demanding high-profile programmes.

Contractors are engaged to NCL on fixed term contracts to provide ongoing support in a specialist discipline across a number of client projects. They work within blended teams alongside our staff consultants, associates and partner organisations. For contractors, we provide well-defined assignments, high professional standards, and clear delivery frameworks.
This is a hybrid approach designed to preserve continuity for sole consultants or contractors who find themselves caught in the IR35 trap. Often a client wishes to retain a trusted individual but can no longer engage them through a personal service company or an “outside IR35” arrangement. The options are usually limited to a client staff role or a generic umbrella company tax wrapper.
As an alternative to these equally unappealing outcomes Nuclear Consulting has established a programme callerd Bring Your Own Client (BYOC). Under this model, the individual becomes a staff consultant employed by Nuclear Consulting and we provide client continuity, tax compliance and all the benefits of employment in a genuine consultancy.
